Civil Rights Museum Tour
January 14 to 15, 2024
- What is the purpose of the trip?
The purpose of the tour is to learn more about the struggle of African Americans to gain Civil Rights and equality.
- When is the trip, and what will it cost?
The trip will be January 14 and 15th during the King Holiday. Two days and one night. It will not cost Black Tie members anything.
Parents who wish to go can pay $75 for a shared room or $140 for a private room. Parents cover their own meals and museum tickets ($25). Parents can ride the bus with the BTGs at no cost or drive their own vehicles.
- Where will we stay?
We will stay at the Embassy Suites Hotel on South Shady Grove Lane in Memphis, Tn.
- What time will we leave?
We will leave from Marbles Recreation Center at 10 a.m.
- How will we travel?
We will travel on our highway bus.
- What should I bring?
A change of clothes, Hygiene Kit (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, deodorant, comb or brush). Tennis shoes for Monday. Your Black-Tie Guys Hoodie. If this is your first trip, you will be given a black hoodie.
We will wear the hoodies on Monday as we tour the Museum.
You will need a camera or a device to take photos to complete your assignments.
- What if I have special medicines or allergies?
If you have special medicines you take you should bring them. If you self medicate, parents should make us aware of when, how much you will be taking. We don’t administer any medicines without specific parent instructions.
- What about meals?
A Sunday evening brunch and night meal will be provided. Breakfast will be at the hotel. On the way home we will provide a lunch and an evening travel meal.
- Will I need any money?
No. Your costs will be covered. However, we will NOT buy your souvenirs and snacks.
- Can I bring my video game?
Yes. However, you should know that you cannot bring any games that involve shooting, killing or violent acts. If you bring such materials, the equipment will be taken and not returned
- When will we return?
We return Monday night, January 15, 2024, at about 7 p.m.
